Welcome Back: Pierre Cardin

The man who popularized space age nurses, the geometrication of the female form via lampshade dresses, and the tsunamic “P” logo seen on many bags in the 70s and 80s has staged his Paris fashion week comeback today at the age of 88. Pierre Cardin — the brand — may not be exactly what it used to be (one word: diffusion) but true, square-shouldered, bullseyed Pierre Cardin still holds major currency amongst the dyed-in-the-wool fashion crowd. On the eve of its 60th year in existence, la maison Cardin harkened back to all of its decades in existence (including the 60’s Jetsonized conception of the “future”) for the S/S 2011 pret-a-porter collection. What  resulted was a nostalgia-ridden Cardin greatest hits collection with a 2011 edge. We’re glad to see you’re back in the game Cardin. Career highlights after the jump. — Marlo Kronberg
