A Derbyshire boy doing good, Jamie Cockerill is one of the most exciting young womenswear designers to keep a sartorial eye on at the moment. At 24-years-old, the ex-Central Saint Martins student showed at autumn/winter 2011 fashion week alongside other top alum, including close pal Phoebe English. Taking his inspiration from his surrounds, he isn’t one to boast of whimsical muses or far-flung aspirations of greatness. Indeed, he prefers to describe himself in terms of his scent (L’Ombre Dame L’Eau) and has an entirely logical approach to design. Working with a nude and black palette for his graduate collection, he focused on layering and draping to create bold new, elegant shapes, including a series of must-have winter coats.
