These series of costumes were designed by Amsterdam based artist Cocky Eek. She likes to develop works in a culture of play, experimenting with diverse sets of lightweight spacial compositions, in which the control over the process and outcome are often uncertain. Eek descries her work to be a physical experience that often gives the suggestions of flying, floating, or brain-silence and likes to stretch the physical borders of human possibilities.
This specific project was initiated by Maria Blaisse for which she developed a specific elastic foam to make a study in movement. Eek then developed the costumes with a focus on the stubborn qualities of the material which are trying to find their counterbalance of the strength of the human body. In movement the wearer influences the form of the costume, and visa versa, together forming a fascinating language.
